Writer: Nick BushrodNick Bushrod

As 2023 came to a close, it wasn’t just a time to reflect on the incredible work of the Uckfield Community First Responders (CFRs) but also an opportunity to celebrate the dedication of one individual who has been at the heart of our team for the past 15 years.

Derek Smith, our long-standing team leader, decided to hang up his stethoscope after an incredible tenure leading the Uckfield CFR team. His commitment, leadership, and passion for helping others have shaped the team into what it is today.

Derek has been more than just a leader; he has been a mentor, a role model, and a driving force behind the development and success of the team. His work has undoubtedly made a lasting impact on countless individuals and families in Uckfield and the surrounding areas.

On behalf of the entire team, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Derek for his years of service, dedication, and unwavering support. Your contributions have been truly invaluable, and while you may be stepping back from frontline responding, your legacy will continue in the team you have helped to build.

Thank you for everything, Derek. You will be greatly missed!
